The American Institute of Graphic Arts is the oldest and largest national
organization committed to the promotion of excellence in graphic design. The AIGA consists of a network of 40 chapters nationwide with over 10,000 member graphic designers and related professionals. Founded in 1914, the AIGA national office is located in New York City.
The purpose of the AIGA is to further excellence in communication design as a broadly defined discipline, as a strategic tool for business, and as a cultural force. The AIGA is the place design professionals turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis and research, and advance education and ethical practice.
The purpose of the statement of policy on professional practice is to provide all American Institute of Graphic Arts members with a clear standard of professional conduct. The AIGA encourages the highest level of professional conduct in design. The policy is not binding. Rather, it reflects the view of the AIGA on the kind of conduct that is in the best interest of the profession, clients and the public.
