PROFILE CONTACTS COURSES Contact for MORE INFO

The curriculum consists of common courses that all students in the College of Art and Design or Junior College are required to take and specialized courses that are restricted to students in a particular department or field of study.

  • The graduate school of Art and Design

The graduate school is more of a research than an educational facility, and both faculty and students alike are considered independent specialists. The programes offered are extremely simple; it is up to the students to turn them into a rich rewarding experience within the allotted time and space. Currently there is only a master's course, but we look forward to the establishment of a doctoral course as well in the future.
Printmaking, which had been subsumed under Painting, was added to the eight original specialties in 1987. The Science of Art and Design program was established in 1988, Imaging Arts and Sciences in 1994.

  • College of Art and Design

The College of Art and Design established at Musashino Art University in 1962 was the first academic entity of its kind in Japan to bear the title Art and Design. The title reflects the belief that the fine arts and design form a single unit, which serves as the guiding principle in the education and research offered in the College as whole. When it was founded, the college had two departments: Art and Industrial Design. It now contains 11 departments, and is steadily developing as a general faculty that pursues design education and research from a broad perspective.
The educational goals of the College of Art and Design focus on the relationship between nature, society, and the individual, and the meaning of design that underlies all specialties. It strives to train students to become truly creative professional artists. The curriculum consists of the following areas: General Education, Physical Education, Foreign Languages, Subjects Required of All Majors, and Subjects Required of Specific Majors.
